Technical session - Week 1

In today's lesson Chris taught us how to use the studio, health and safety procedures (to be careful with the cables, high and hot equipment such as the lighting bulbs etc) and how to use a camera with studio lighting.

The camera settings when shooting in the studio should be:
  •  on Manual (M);
  • ISO 100;
  • 1/160 shutter speed;
  • Aperture between 6 and 8.
We also need to buy a hot shoe adaptor so we can connect the camera to the flash.

Other things we can borrow to set the studio are:
  • a camera;
  • spill kill reflector (to direct the light and to set the umbrella, if wanted);
  • shoot through umbrella;
  • reflective umbrella;
  • softbox;
  • beautydish;
  • tripod;
  • reflector (especially for beauty shots - to make the face appear brighter and clear)
  • sync lead;
  • a computer;
  • long USB cable to connect the camera to the computer;
  • reflective panels;
  • big stands etc
